Who You Are

In this role, you will report to the Director of Structural Integrity and lead the Stress Analysis teams to develop lightweight and durable structures, systems, and interiors for the SpaceShipTwo, WhiteKnightTwo, and other prototype air vehicles.  This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.  If you have a great attitude and a creative mind then you will feel right at home in this organization.  You will find yourself amongst the best and brightest while being part of a pioneering organization!



Your Mission

  • Provide engineering management and technical leadership for the Stress Group at TSC, which includes functional areas of stress analysis and fatigue/DADT.
  • Lead execution of stress, fatigue and DADT requirements for WK2, SS2 and other vehicles based on customer requirements.
  • Working with Director of Structural Integrity and Principal Engineers, lead the development of processes to support stress, fatigue and DADT analysis.
  • Working with Director of Structural Integrity and Principal Engineers, lead the team in completing internal loads development, stress analysis and fatigue/DADT analysis for airframe, mechanical systems, landing gear, and interiors.
  • Coordinate with ground test and flight test teams to support the qualification of SS2 and WK2 for entry into customer service and support the creation of test plans for these activities.
  • Coordinate with Program Management, engineering, and other integrated product team staff regarding vehicle design and analysis.
  • Interface with other program leaders to assist senior leadership with setting priorities and meet TSC company goals.
  • Provides mentoring to Stress Group Leads and Stress Team.
  • Execute other duties as required to support company and program objectives.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or similar Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Greater than five (5) demonstrated experience leading and managing engineering teams to rapidly develop lightweight structures in an Integrated Product Team
  • More than ten (10) years of experience in Stress Analysis or Structural Integrity, familiar with composite and metallic structures, and using finite element based and classical stress analysis techniques.
  • High level of technical expertise in stress analysis, fatigue and DADT.
  • Experience in aircraft or spacecraft composite fabrication, design, and analysis processes. Experince with Part 23 composite airframe design a plus.
  • Excellent engineering analytical and technical problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity with space flight vehicles, rocket propulsion systems, and components is desired. Knowledge of FAA part 23 or 25 FARs a plus.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, adaptable to changing environments and handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
