    The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system.     Who You Are

    TSC’s Director of Operations oversees the facilities team and is responsible for the campus projects that allow TSC to build spaceships without disruption in a fast paced, 7 day a week operation; in a clean environment. They will proactively assure the safe and reliable operations of TSC to meet all regulatory requirements. They will lead in a manner that is consistent with our TSC values of being straight up, heart felt service, pure grit, practically driven, and elevating people.



    Your Mission

    • Maintains high standards of operations to ensure that all aspects of the business remain operational across a broad campus in a proactive manner
    • Manages all employees of the facilities department and is responsible for the development of the employees within that department
    • Responsible for the timely execution of all campus projects
    • In consultation with executive leadership and the People team, design and maintain an organizational structure for operations that maximizes empowerment, clarifies decision making, maximizes productivity and drives strong accountability
    • Formulates and refines standards, policies and procedures for the operations organization that are proactive in meeting safety and operational excellence standards
    • Supports implementation and execution of TSC’s Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) as part of continually improving our operations team
    • Identifies, recommends and implements changes and fit-for-purpose technology to improve operations across TSC
    • Maintain cost, schedule and quality performance whilst the breadth and size of TSC’s operations activities continues to grow
    • Work with all related business functions and disciplines to deliver consistently superior results and exceptional customer service
    • Regularly report to executive leadership, internal and external customers and the wider organization the operations team’s performance in the areas of quality, cost, schedule, conformance to requirements and safety
    • Responsible for meeting all regulatory obligations for the operation
    • Working with all teams within TSC develop and maintain floorplans, equipment, and facilities that maximize our manufacturing capabilities across a broad campus
    • Responsible for the proactive safe operation of TSC
    • Provides executive leadership with the recommendations for the direction of the operations team that best fit TSC achieving all of its goals


    What you bring

    • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex operations environment with multiple priorities
    • Extensive relevant experience running operations with hazardous operations
    • This individual will have taken a hands-on approach in leading an operations team or project
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
    • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to resolve constant negotiations for space and resources between projects and teams
    • Self-directed with demonstrated passion for space and aerospace development
    • Resourceful and entrepreneurial to continually elevate TSC’s operation team’s performance
    • Extensive experience in setting up CMMS systems



    ITAR Requirements

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
