Who You Are
In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Engineering and lead the Stress Analysis and Materials and Processes teams to develop lightweight and durable structures, systems, and interiors for the SpaceShipTwo, WhiteKnightTwo, and other prototype air vehicles.  This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.  If you have a great attitude and a creative mind then you will feel right at home in this organization.  You will find yourself amongst the best and brightest while being part of a pioneering organization!

Your Mission

  • Provide engineering management and technical leadership for the Structural Integrity group at TSC, which includes functional areas of stress analysis, fatigue/DADT and Materials and Processing.
  • Lead development of Structural Integrity requirements for WK2, SS2 and other vehicles based on customer requirements.
  • Lead the development of processes to support stress analysis, Materials and Processing, and Non-Destructive Testing requirements.
  • Lead team in completing loads development, stress analysis and fatigue/DADT analysis for airframe, mechanical systems, landing gear, and interiors.
  • Support development of new aircraft designs by providing stress analysis and supporting conceptual designs for Advanced Design projects. 
  • Coordinate with ground test and flight test teams to support the qualification of SS2 and WK2 for entry into customer service and support the creation of test plans for these activities.
  • Coordinate with Program Management, engineering, and other integrated product team staff regarding vehicle design, analysis and testing.
  • Coordinate with Program leadership to establish staffing requirements, ensure proper staffing in place to support requirements and that priorities and objectives are met.
  • Interface with other program leaders to assist senior leadership with setting priorities and meet TSC company goals.
  • Leads development of standardized analysis criteria, processes, methods and templates for the entire department.
  • Supports review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design and loads requirements
  • Supports the creation of structural test plans which will be used to verify manufacturing processes meet design intent and requirements
  • Provides mentoring to junior engineers in all technical areas, and leads the overall talent acquisition, development and retention for the department.
  • Execute other duties as required by TSC Senior Leadership to support company and program objectives.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or similar Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Greater than five (5) demonstrated experience leading and managing engineering teams to rapidly develop lightweight structures in an Integrated Product Team
  • More than ten (10) years of experience in Stress Analysis or Structural Integrity, familiar with composite and metallic structures, and using finite element based and classical stress analysis techniques.
  • High level of technical expertise in stress analysis, interactions with Materials and Processes development, and Non-Destructive Testing of composite structures
  • Experience in a start-up organization or a highly unique cultural environment. Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
  • Experience in aircraft or spacecraft composite fabrication, design, and analysis processes
  • Excellent engineering analytical and technical problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with space flight vehicles, rocket propulsion systems, and components is desired. Knowledge of FAA part 25 FARs a plus
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, adaptable to changing environments and handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of aircraft design and engineering processes, Product Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management and Configuration Control is required
