The Spaceship Company (TSC) is an affiliate of Virgin Galactic as a space-system manufacturing organization.

Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Who You Are

As the Technical Trainer, you will use your extensive experience in composite aircraft manufacturing to train others in composite fabrication, bonding, assembly, and other manufacturing processes and practices. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.  The first task of this role will be to quickly learn and understand the unique fabrication, bonding, and assembly processes used in the production of TSC aircraft.  The trainer in this position will help refine and improve training processes and courses.  Outside of conducting training courses, the trainer will work with training developers and various customers of our training practices to assist in developing high quality training.

Your Mission

  • Adhere and follow all Safety Procedures  and educate students on TSC specific processes and acceptable workmanship
  • Prepare training material and prep area for class
  • Facilitate workshops for new hires or other course attendees
  • Help fine tune student skills to maximize efficiency
  • Evaluate class participants for Supervisor review
  • Continuously enhance technical instructional delivery and presentation skills
  • Assist in developing training content for new hire and existing shop floor personnel  by working with Leads, Supervisors and Manufacturing Engineers to incorporate appropriate skills into training project
  • Assist in developing and editing new course material in various formats such as Computer Based Training, Video, Hands On Activities and PowerPoint presentations
  • Encourage and provide development and training opportunities for shop personnel through excellent coaching and leadership skills
  • Foster an environment of collaboration, innovation, and creativity by experimenting with new techniques.

What you bring

Professional Requirements

  • 10 plus years of extensive experience with composites or aircraft assembly (systems installation a plus)
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated success training other staff
  • Recent hands on experience in a precision yet manual manufacturing setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills
  • Extreme attention to detail and safety
  • Able to work in a dusty and loud environment with varying temperature
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Associates Degree in relevant area of study or FAA Airframe and PowerPlant Certification a plus
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools a plus
  • Experience with manufacturing based ERP systems a plus
