Your Mission

A Systems Engineer is expected to have detailed knowledge that is specialized but not limited to Server, Virtualization and Storage technologies. This position will be responsible for tier 2-3 support across the infrastructure, as well as maintain backup and storage applications across a multi-site environment. The Systems Engineer will ensure efficiency and stability of the infrastructure and will be one of the key players in design, standardization and documentation using industry known best practices. This position requires the candidate to have excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and documentation skills in order to confidently identify and resolve issues. Since this is a senior lever position, the Sr. Systems Administrator will be expected to play a role in the mentorship and guidance to other administrators and help-desk technicians. Additional responsibilities include mid to high-level knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and assisting engineers and help-desk teammates with priority incidents in an effort to resolve issues as fast as possible.

  • Establishes system specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing system infrastructure.
  • Establishes systems by planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of PC and server hardware, software, LAN and WAN networks, and operating and system management systems; defining system and operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks and operating system.
  • Secures infrastructure systems by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing back-ups and maintaining documentation.
  • Upgrades Infrastructure systems by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.
  • Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets; monitoring expenses.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Assist users to resolve computer hardware and/or software problems.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Provide quick response to ensure maximum uptime of all users and systems.
  • In a rotating on-call schedule.


What you bring

Education: 4 year College degree in an IT related field from an accredited college, or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years proven knowledge of server, storage, backup and virtualization platforms including Dell server and storage systems, Windows and Linux. Minimum 2 years of working knowledge on LAN/WAN technologies, including Dell hardware, SonicWALL firewalls, layer-3 switches and ISP vendor relations. Minimum 10 years in an IT capacity role including help-desk technician, technical support, system/network administration, etc., with career progression.  


Professional Requirements:

  • Proven experience with physical and virtual servers and platforms. Windows Hyper-V, server 2008 and 2012 are a must. Medium-high level knowledge is required for Linux, UNIX.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to ensure efficient and timely resolutions in the department’s knowledge base. Provide recommendations to the team on infrastructure systems and hardware.
  • Work with senior engineers and team to help architect storage and server solutions
  • Team player and team builder, ability to work on complex and large projects with many facets, providing leadership in the design, deployment and support of the project and infrastructure related systems.
  • The ability to represent the company well to our vendors, customers, hosted providers and outsourced IT services.
  • Extensive root cause analysis and troubleshooting experience. Excellent OSI model knowledge
  • Proactive, forward thinking and passion that will resonate within the department.
  • The drive to keep up with industry standards and best practices. 
  • Extensive knowledge with hands-on experience in the following:

                - P2V and V2V

                - Dell NetVault and EqualLogic storage and backup systems

                - iSCSI and Fiber Channel connectivity

                - OOB management (iDRAC, iLO)

                - Solarwinds monitoring platform or similar

                - Deploying/maintaining VMs in a high-availability platform

                - Active Directory, GPO, LDAP integration

                - Patch-management

                - PowerShell and batch scripting
