The Spaceship Company (TSC) is Virgin Galactic’s wholly owned space-system manufacturing organization. Headquartered at Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, it is building and testing a fleet of WhiteKnightTwo carrier aircraft and SpaceShipTwo reusable spaceships that, together, form Virgin Galactic’s human spaceflight system. Who You Are

The Spaceship Company is looking for highly energetic, ambitious, passionate students to join our team as interns during the Summer of 2018. You will be creative, innovative and share in our passion for opening space. The knowledge and skillsets required to be successful will be demonstrated through extensive coursework and participation in related projects and extracurriculars.

 

For approximately 12 weeks you will be immersed in our incredible culture and work on challenging and meaningful projects that directly relate to company goals. The hands-on experience you will gain along with opportunities to engage with our exceptional executives, engineers and other professionals will be incredibly valuable in shaping the foundation for your future.

Your Mission

Ground Test Systems Engineering:

  • Design of test facilities for testing of propolsion system components, engines, structures and avionics.
  • Development of data acquisition systems and control system programming.
  • Write plans for composites allowables development, MRB, fatigue, subscale fatigue and full scale testing for development and certification purposes.
  • Have an understanding and wide application of engineering principles and concepts relating to designing text fixtures for coupon, sub assembly and full scale tests.

What you bring

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science or Physics.
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Related hands-on experience in the form of school projects, engineering related clubs/project teams, research, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability and desire to work effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
